First steps after installing
The order that saves the most time: credentials, groups, devices, users.
Retivo is quickest to set up in this order, because each step builds on the one before.
1. Credentials
Inventory > Credentials > New credential set. Add at least one SSH login and one SNMP set (v2c community or v3 user). Credentials are stored encrypted on the node and are never shown again after saving.
2. Groups
Inventory > Groups. Create groups that match how you think about the network: sites, roles (core, access, firewalls) or customers. A group can:
- hand its credentials to its devices,
- set how often its devices are checked,
- say which services must be on or off (Compliance),
- choose where config versions are copied (Keep backups off the box).
Groups can sit inside other groups. See Devices and groups.
3. Devices
Add devices one at a time, from a CSV file, or by scanning a subnet. See Add devices. A device uses its own credential if it has one, otherwise its group's.
4. Users
Settings > Users. Give each person a role and the groups they may see. See Roles and permissions.
5. Check the first results
- Dashboard shows devices up and down, backups, changes and vulnerabilities.
- Vulnerabilities fills in once each device's OS version is known (read over SNMP, over SSH, or during the first backup).
- Topology draws itself from LLDP and CDP within a few minutes.
