Upgrade Cisco IOS and IOS XE
Upload an image, check flash, download, verify, set the boot image and reload.
Before you begin
- You need Push config.
- The devices must reach the node over HTTP to download the image. The wizard asks for the node's address.
- Check Cisco's upgrade path yourself. Retivo does not.
1. Upload the image
Inventory > Firmware > Upload image and choose the .bin file from Cisco. Retivo reads the version from the file name. The largest file accepted is set in Settings > General (600 MB by default).
2. Check flash and version
Upgrade devices, tick the devices, press Check flash space and version. This only reads: running version, bundle or install mode, free space, and which old images could be deleted. An image of another family (for example a c3750e image for a c2960x) is refused.
3. Make room if needed
Tick old images and press Delete ticked. The running and boot images are never deleted. In install mode, Remove inactive packages runs install remove inactive.
4. Download and prepare
Press Download and prepare. Retivo:
- takes a config backup,
- has the device download the image (a bar shows progress, and the log shows the device's own output),
- compares
verify /md5with the uploaded file, - in bundle mode, sets the new boot image and saves, keeping the current image as fallback.
Nothing reloads yet. Undo points the boot image back.
5. Reload
Press Reload ticked devices. Retivo schedules reload in N minutes, with a gap between devices if you choose one; a scheduled reload can be cancelled. Afterwards it waits for each device and checks that it runs the new version.
Install-mode devices are upgraded with install add file … activate commit and reload at once.
Warning
Upgrade one device first. Stacks and install mode need extra care, and the reload order does not follow the topology.
